ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Higher Certificate in Personal Training has a scientific and practical approach, preparing you for careers in the field of fitness and personal training. The programme combines fitness science, client- and facility and management theory and practice to provide you with the skills to face various challenges in the fitness industry with confidence and expertise.
The practical components of the programme will expose you to different industry-specific activities. Practical exposure includes various compulsory excursions throughout the year as well as fitness and personal training courses. These courses and excursions provide you with another platform to apply your theoretical knowledge in a practical environment. It also equips you with additional skills and knowledge in order for you to make a success of your future endeavours.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
NSC (National Senior Certificate) (Gr 12) with admission to Higher Certificate studies, or NC (National Certificate) (Vocational) with the minimum requirements for entrance to Higher Certificate studies, as specified by UMALUSI.

Work Integrated Learning
Exposure to the fitness industry is an important requirement of any vocational education and training. It is a unique way of learning as it develops a better understanding through practical experience. During your studies, you will be exposed to different learning experiences in this regard. Common examples include field trips, role plays, case studies, simulated workplace assignments, facilitating training sessions, etc. A minimum of 340 hours of work integrated learning over the one year of study is required. Note: The experience must be directly relevant and related to your field of study. This type of learning is part of your curriculum and can be done before or after class, on weekends or during holidays. Work integrated learning involves the acquisition of work-related or occupational knowledge and skills in the workplace, with the formal and non-formal involvement of employers.
